For many years, organizations have been designing solutions without a clear understanding of the market need, often with many assumptions. The success of a project was a hit or a miss although the impacts of a mistake were economically not viable to the financial health of an organization. The reasons for failure were that projects became unfocussed receiving conflicting demands from different business departments resulting in business users becoming increasingly discouraged with the limited ability to implement change promptly. Throughout this period the role of a system analyst evolved into Business analyst.
The set of tasks, knowledge, & techniques required to identify business needs and determine solutions to business problems is what Business Analysis entails. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement or organizational change. Business Analysts are therefore the key change facilitators within an organization who deliver effective solutions which provide tangible business benefits usually within short timescales.

The job of a Business Analyst is one with a fairly bright outlook and has seen better growth than many other positions and that is the trend that should continue in the future. Many estimate that the number of positions will continue to grow over the next decade. India has emerged as the global hub for analytics and there is a strong demand for "data savvy" professionals in the industry today.
Salaries have sky rocketed in the last couple of years. Campus hires have swept a salary of a minimum of 6 lacs p.a to 12 lacs for premium college graduates. By the time you get into the analytics manager role with ten years of experience you could be commanding a salary range of 12 to 20 lacs p.a.
Education and Training
There are no formal qualifications required to perform this career although to degree level is the norm. An MBA from a reputed institute is always a preferred choice among employers.
While it is possible to go into the IT side most major employers will expect education at a degree level or higher and it is not uncommon to achieve an MA or Msc. Experience of programming or modeling work may prove beneficial with system engineering being synonymous to Business analysis.

They are often viewed as an agent of change. Essentially they are responsible for capturing and documenting processes and data needed to meet business goals.
Also referred as requirements manager, primarily analyze, validate, verify and specify the real needs of stake holders or end users. They are engaged at fixing minor defects as well as develop new applications.
As a Project Manager you would be working for organizations that rely on IT systems. Work responsibilities include identifying, monitoring and coordinating and enhancement of new IT systems.
They work closely with development teams for the design and implementation of products and present to prospective customers.
They are responsible for the secure and effective operations of all systems both hardware and software. Additionally they implement and manage security or integrity and backup procedures and manage the team staff.
Business Process Analyst
Work closely with clients and business to identify and analyze core business processes, issues and risks. They should be able to maintain effective working relationships with clients and business representatives.
