The agricultural scenario of our country has been witnessing a sea change over the last two decades. An entirely new set of challenges such as global warming and climate change, increased cost of agriculture, labor scarcity, food safety and trade competition has led to the emergence of agricultural engineering principles and practices, that are time and cost effective solutions offered. Agricultural engineering is a discipline that applies engineering sciences and technology to agricultural production and processing. As a student of this field you work on finding solutions for design and development on agricultural farm machinery, farm structures, mechanization of agricultural activities, and ways of efficiency in food productivity, conservation of soil and water.
The broad areas of subjects covered include, Crop production technology, soil technology, Agricultural biotechnology, Fluid mechanics, Dairy and food engineering, Power workshop and Aqua- cultural engineering.
An agricultural engineer may adopt one or more of the following roles:
- Farm manager
- Project Director
- Product Design engineer
- Design and installation of production process
- Natural resource management
- Agricultural operations and marketing systems
- Environmental Controls engineer
- Soil scientist
- Food supervisor
Agricultural engineering careers in India are fast emerging nowadays owing to the upward motion in the agrarian sectors. It is a technologically sophisticated field that offers bright career prospects in any country and in various sectors.
